21. Chicago History Museum

The Chicago History Museum, formerly known as the Chicago Historical Society, was built in 1856. The original museum was made for researching and studying the history of Chicago. After its destruction in the Great Fire of 1871, there was an attempt of restoration. However, the building again got down in the fire of 1874. Eventually, the museum was expanded and opened to public display in 1932, built in the modern Federal Architectural Style. The museum explores the rich and varied history of the United States of America, along with special insight to Chicago’s history, focusing on how the town grew from being an outpost to the city of skyscrapers it has today become. A special section features Abraham Lincoln in the museum and has several articles about his election, assassinating and participation in the war.

The museum houses the most important collection of materials that correspond to the local history of Chicago. It also has an extensive research library where paintings manuscripts and photos are connected with eyes open to public and students working on projects.
